Comparison between HPLC AND HPTLC

Comparison between HPTLC AND HPLC
  • HPLC is not convinent when a sample contain a large number of compounds ,since it requires a large number of mobile phase for their separation, it becomes incontinent and costly
  • In HPLC a solute is eluted out along the solvent and causing interference with the detection of the solute,In HPTLC solvent is evaporated before detection and so there is no interference with solvent
  • HPLC columns are costly .HPTLC plates are cheap when compared to HPLC coumn
  • Very low eluting compounds spoil the costly column in HPLC ,no such danger in HPTLC
  • In HPLC very small sample volume can be applied when compared to HPLC
  • Both in HPLC and HPTLC quantification is possible
  • HPLC can be connected to Mass spectrometer
  • Less time for method development when compared with HPLC
  • HPTLC enables visual observation of separated spots.this permits rapid screening
  • IN HPLC column is used for long time for analogue of many sample because of this sample are retained and accumulated in column and may alter its character.TLC plates are disposible
